Recipes Suitable for Reducing Kapha and Losing Weight

Suggested Week Menu

Increase foods that are warmer, lighter and less oily.
Reduce foods that are colder and heavier.
Increase foods that are pungent, bitter and astringent- Increase pungent spices- such as cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric, ginger, cloves. Sprinkle Coolherbals Kapha Powder to give these.
Reduce foods that are sweet, sour or salty.
Reduce/avoid dairy products such as milk or butter-replace by skimmed milk, goat’s milk, sunflower, corn or almond oil
Reduce all sweeteners- honey is the preferred sweetener.
Barley, millet, buckwheat and rye are good; reduce rice, wheat, corn and oats
Avoid ‘heavy’ fruits such as bananas, figs, pineapple, coconut, avocados, oranges and melons
Increase salads, raw vegetables and cooked vegetables.
Reduce red meat and pork –replace by chicken and fresh water fish.

BREAKFASTS

Oat Bran Flakes, Oat Bran Muffin, Smoothes, Toasted Oats, Goat’s Milk, Soy Milk, Barley Cereal, Kapha Fruits from List, Crispy Granola Bars.

TEAS/DRINKS

Ginger tea, herbal tea, spring water, spicy soy/goat’s milk, fruit juices, avoid caffeine, or keep to a minimum. Take any of the following drinks at any time

DAY 1
Breakfast –fresh fruit with crispy granola/rice milk
Snack-apricots berries or peaches, natural breakfast bar, granola bar
Lunch- jacket potato with salad/baked beans
Snack-unbuttered popcorn or fruit
Dinner- chicken and mushroom casserole with rye bread (chicken may be replaced with soya chunks)
Large salad- see Foods to Emphasis On List in Appendix.
Desert- Ginger pudding with soy custard

DAY 2
Breakfast- fresh fruit with crispy granola or oat muffin
Snack-apple or pear, granola bar
Lunch-rye bread with a large bean salad with cous cous
Snack- popcorn unbuttered/fruit/corn tortillas
Dinner-steamed asparagus with butterbean/pepper spicy casserole
Dessert-stewed apricots/ wheat-free apple crumble

DAY 3
Breakfast- granola bar/oat bran muffin/rice crispies with rice milk
Snack -apple or pear/granola bar/fruit bar
Lunch-lentil soup with rye bread, salad
Snack- cranberries/dried fruits/unbuttered popcorn/snack bar
Dinner- chickpeas with basmati rice
Dessert- honeyed pears

DAY 4
Breakfast- fresh fruit salad/ smoothie with barley cereal
Snack -apple or pear/snack bar/carrots/raisins
Lunch- rye bread sandwich with houmous, large salad with celery and broccoli
Snack- popcorn/snack bar/raisins/corn tortillas
Dinner- cannelloni beans with vegetables and soya with rye bread, spicy mashed potato, salad
Dessert-Cheesecake

DAY 5
Breakfast-oat bran muffin with smoothie
Snack -apple or pear/health bar
Lunch -chicken or vegetarian salad with rye bread/tomato soup/onion soup
Snack- carrots and raisins
Dinner- wheat free pizza, salad
Dessert-stewed pears with honey/wheat free cakes

DAY 6
Breakfast- rice krispies /soy milk
Snack -oat bran muffin
Lunch -Indian vegetable curry with rice
Snack- fruit/corn chips
Dinner-Corn tortilla with tofu or chicken filling/red/yellow peppers
Dessert- Desert- Soy ice cream

DAY 7
Vege Grill- Soy sausage, eggs, potatoes, tomatoes
Dinner- rice noodles and vegetables/broccoli/cabbage/carrots, salad
Desert- mango pulp with fruit cocktail
